So in just a few hours I’ll be leaving on a fantastic 10 day trip to Thailand. I’ve been meaning to write for ages, to tell you guys how much of an awesome time I’ve been having. How I’ve started to see this is home, how the thought of leaving has become a hard thing rather than a thing to look forward to, how I forget that this is a foreign country and get confused when other people refer to it as such. I’ve still had bad moments, bad hours, and bad days, they have become much fewer and far between. I’ve started doing acrobalance and circus, playing more water polo, climbing as much as I can, and I even got the opportunity to teach a blues dance class. I feel like I really have made some good friends here, like Sach who just left. He came over for a tea party that was expanded to include chocolate chip pancakes and packing. And Kiri who is the only other female engineer that I’ve talked to here who happens to love to climb as much as I do. And Nick who seems to be up for anything and loves music how I do and is probably my official concert buddy. Birnie who decided he was in charge of educating me on what it is to be South Australian and who pegs me for every bit of slang I don’t know. And a bunch of other really awesome people that I’ve already mentioned. I’ve been ice skating, to the fair (or show), had crazy dress up pool, fed bouncers, made wayy too many pancakes, learned to feed myself, and so much more. I can’t believe that this adventure is almost half way over but I feel like it’s just beginning. I’ve made plans to go to Cairns to see the Great Barrier Reef and another trip down to New Zealand, both to visit friends who are excited to show me around. Nick and I are planning a road trip to the Arapiles and down the Great Ocean Road. The thought of going home is still a nice one, but this place has definitely become a home away from home. I don’t like the schooling here, it’s just not the kind of school that I would have chosen to come to, I like my choice of Mudd for school, but this experience will make me appreciate the hell I put myself through on a daily basis when I get back home. But other than that, Adelaide is a pretty awesome place and I’m really happy that I’ve gotten to experience all of the amazing things that I have so far, and I’m not even half way done!

To Thailand! 😀

  1. Hey you!
Just thought I’d check in and see how you’re doing-I see you are doing quite spectacularly! It seems school is just a side note! What a blast! I am so glad that you are experiencing all of this -from climbing to dancing, to eating pancakes! I’m sure Thailand is absolutely amazing. You just might be returning now, full of new memories and adventures! I’m also glad you are happy and comfortable in your surrogate home and no longer feel like a stranger! Be safe! Have fun! See you soon! Love, your cousin Alyssa ♥
